When you should use this chart

• Shows shares of a whole; the open center holds the key figure – e.g. "78% utilization" as a number inside the ring
• Suited to simple core messages with 2–5 categories: market shares, budget distribution, approval/rejection
• Established in dashboards as a compact KPI element
• With many or similarly sized shares, switch to a bar chart – angles are harder to compare than lengths
