Es umfasst auch Flüchtlinge. Die Daten, die zur Schätzung des internationalen Migrantenbestands zu einem bestimmten Zeitpunkt verwendet wurden, stammen hauptsächlich aus Volkszählungen. Die Schätzungen basieren auf Daten zur im Ausland geborenen Bevölkerung - Personen, die in einem Land wohnen, aber in einem anderen Land geboren wurden. Wenn keine Daten zur im Ausland geborenen Bevölkerung verfügbar sind, werden Daten zur ausländischen Bevölkerung - dh Personen, die Staatsbürger eines anderen Landes als des Landes sind, in dem sie leben - als Schätzungen verwendet.
